R.I.P. Louise Olivia Quesnel Fortin 1944-2011

LouiseQuesnel2

This morning, one day after my birthday, mom died peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family. It’s the best birthday gift because she suffers no more.

It was truly an honor to be there for her.

She allowed me to give back to a person who gave so much of herself, and to discover a part of her I never knew.

She was selfless until the very end. Even when in constant pain, as she struggled to swallow and drifted in and out of consciousness, she was still thinking of others.

She was always making sure she paid for any of her expenses, always asking about others, always stopping short of asking for help for fear she would be an imposition.

Mom’s memorial service will be held at St. Mark church, 160 Principale, Gatineau (Aylmer sector), Québec, on November 4th at 10 am. Family members will receive condolences starting at 9:30, and snacks will be served after the ceremony.

A huge thanks to Sylvie Fortin. My rock. My family’s rock. And my mom’s rock. Most of all, thank you mom for this gift. I love you. Always.

Lonely rivers flow, to the sea, to the sea. To the open arms of the sea. Lonely rivers sigh, “Wait for me, wait for me.” I’ll be coming home, wait for me!

  1. So sorry, Michel. Blessings.

  2. I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but I am still very sorry for your loss. I lost my own mother a couple of years ago, and like you, I was with her when she passed. While this is truly an honor and a blessing, as you have mentioned, for those of us left behind it is only the beginning. Take good care of you.

The work for us goes on, but I know our parents are still working for us and with us from the other side. Be strong and take care, both of you. As time continues you’ll realize more and more of the little things she helped you do to become the person you are.

  16. Michael, this is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman. Although we all will pass from this earth, we leave behind the legacy of all we are to those who love us. It is obvious you have loved and been gifted with a beautiful legacy from your mother. Mine passed away almost two years ago and I think of her every day. You will continue to honor her with the life you live. May you be blessed with peace and the knowledge that she is yet with you in spirit. May angels attend you and comfort you. Blessings, Cristie Gardner

  24. My condolences to you, Sylvie, and your family Michel.

    Very sorry for the loss.

  25. Someone is happy now to welcome her back home on the other side. Alice A. Bailey said that death and birth are similar, as we pass through the same doorway. Birth onto the Earth plane makes us happy here, but can make someone sad in the Spirit world. Your Mum is back home, Michel, lots of love to you and your family.

  26. As Caterpillar becomes a Butterfly so has your Mom been transformed in the twinkling of an eye.

Your dedication and courage is an inspiration to us all. Condolences to you, Sylvie and your family.

Incidentally, Michel, my birthday was also yesterday. A bittersweet Happy Birthday to you along with my prayers and thoughts.

    Warmly,

My thoughts are with you and your family. Jesse sends his regards also. Lovely post you wrote to share the news.

  104. Michel and Sylvie – as you shared your experiences of what you went through with your Mom, I re-lived my Mom’s passing. We knew she was going to leave us. And her spirit and health was so good that I thought I could go to BIG13 and then be there for all that you went through in 5 days when we returned. Instead, she decided that she could finally let go – I believe knowing I would not endure the process as well as you have. And she battled late Friday to Sunday and let go before we could get a flight back. I now understand even more fully what her weekend was like… and believe she wanted t that way. Though I miss her so much. And I appreciate you sharing your journey with your Mom. SO MUCH love going your way.

  105. I’m so sorry, Michel. But I’m glad the ordeal is over for you all.

  106. “…the best birthday gift…” I told you that you would smile. It will be a little strange at first, but you as well as your Mom are finally free. You are both released. It looks like this coming winter won’t feel so cold after all. Congratulations on your new found life. Be brave and venture forth Michel.

  107. I’ve always said celebrate the life lived don’t mourn it. I know how amazing you are, how amazing your family is, and how amazing your Mom must have been. Let her memories lift you guys up; celebrate her life, courage and love that she so openly shared with you. Sending lots of love to you and the family.

  122. Your dear mother still lives through your memories, Michel. If and when you are ready, it will be interesting to me to learn of some her little and great activities which helped build the part of the world she dwelt in. My mom reached the end of a terminal illness in late 1996. One of her activities was to continue her tutoring of high school math from her care home bed up until 2 months before she passed on. The vibes I get from the photos of your mom indicates to me that this fine lady did much that without her a community would not have grown.

  123. Michel, What a lovely tribute to your mom and family. They often say, “People who live well, die well.” It sounds like your mom died well. She was caring and loving for others as they were caring and loving for her–a circle of caring and love. I’m sure you will miss her, but you’re right, she left you with an amazing gift.

  124. Christine Martel

mes sympathies a toi et ta famille je comprend comment tu te sens puisque j `ai perdu mon père le lendemain de ma fête moi aussi c étais un soulagement puisqu`il souffre plus et je sais ou il est parti . prend soin de toi .

  129. Michel, I’m sorry to hear about your mom. Please accept my condolences and let me know if there is *anything* I can do for you.

  130. Denise Simard-Lapointe

Denise Simard

  131. My father also passed away last week, and it is the times like these that we truly realize how important our families and friends are. He also died peacefully at home, surrounded by family.

  132. Its such as you read my mind! You seem to grasp so much about this, such as you wrote the ebook in it or something. I feel that you could do with a few % to drive the message house a little bit, however other than that, this is fantastic blog. A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
